Godmother of Soul (GMOS), is comprised of a group of musicians who not only have a common love for the kind of music they grew up on, but who have also known each other for over twenty years. Each have payed their dues in well-known bands, such as The Cult, Montrose, and Quiet Riot, and now play together with the Godmother of Soul herself, Tomi Rae Brown, widow of the late, great James Brown. Tomi Rae also toured with her husband around the world for sixteen years, in which she spent a lot of time up front in solo performances, including faithful tributes to her favorite singer, Janis Joplin.
Tomi Rae and Kelly Garni, who was taught to play bass by the late Randy Rhoads shortly before they would form Quiet Riot with singer, Kevin Dubrow, began with a vision of a powerhouse rock and soul band playing a lot of the great songs they grew up with, but in an original style. They are joined by Lez Warner, former drummer for The Cult and Montrose, along with keyboardist Jason Edwards (Roughnecks, Chuck Berry), and guitarist Raven Storm.
Add up the level of experience in this band, and you can be assured everyone in the audience leaves with a quality dose of the music of some of the most influential decades of music in rock history.
